Tooth extraction and implant healing: our treatment timeline
Understand the difference between healing after an extraction and using a denture or temporary after implant placement.
First, decide whether an extraction is needed
Dr. Ackerman examines the tooth and recommends removal only when appropriate. We preserve healthy teeth whenever possible. Planning the replacement before the extraction helps clarify whether a temporary tooth or bone graft may be part of your care.
Allow the extraction site to heal
Our practice typically allows about three months after an extraction before implant placement. The site, bone grafting, and your health can affect the schedule. We do not remove a tooth and place an implant in the same appointment.

Implant placement is a separate step
After implants are placed in a healed site, a snap-in denture or temporary restoration can be loaded immediately when this is part of the plan and the implants have adequate stability. This is different from same-day extraction and implant placement, and it does not mean every patient receives final teeth that day.
Support healing at home
Follow your written instructions for food, hygiene, medication, and follow-up. Avoid putting more force on the restoration than advised. Smoking and some medical conditions can affect healing. Tell us about medication changes or symptoms that are worsening rather than improving.
