Myths 1 and 2: everyone qualifies, and smaller is always better

Mini implants can be appropriate in selected cases, but they still need adequate bone and suitable loading. A narrow diameter is not automatically the best choice. Dr. Ackerman uses both mini and conventional-sized one-piece implants after evaluating your anatomy and restoration.

Myths 3 and 4: placement is not surgery, and final teeth are always immediate

Implant placement is a surgical procedure, even when a less extensive approach is possible. At Freedom, extractions are followed by a healing period, typically about three months, before implants are placed. A planned temporary or snap-in denture after placement is different from same-day final teeth.

Myth 5: implants do not need care

Implants do not develop tooth decay, but the surrounding gum and bone can become diseased. Restorations and attachment components can also need maintenance. Daily cleaning and planned professional follow-up remain part of your care.
