The short answer
The timeline depends on whether teeth need to be removed. Dr. Ackerman describes allowing about two to three months of healing after extractions. If the site is already healed, treatment can move sooner, with the denture attached on implant placement day.
You may hear “same-day denture” and wonder how that fits with the full treatment process. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman explains the difference between healing after extractions and the day a denture is attached to implants.
So a lot of people want to know, how long does this implant denture process take? So it all depends on if you need teeth taken out or not. So if you need your teeth removed, there is going to be a healing time before I can place your implants. So I would make immediate dentures for you. You’re going to wear those regular dentures for about maybe 2 to 3 months while everything heals.
And then I’ll place the implants. Now, if you already have your teeth removed and you’re struggling with dentures, we could do implants kind of right away. So it definitely decreases the timeline if you’ve already had your teeth removed, because if you’ve already had your teeth removed, we just need maybe a few weeks to get a new denture made for you if we can’t use your existing denture. And the day I put the implants in, You’ll leave with the denture snapped in that day. So if you’ve already had your teeth removed and you’re healed, it’s been about 2 to 3 months since you had the teeth removed, we’d be placing implants fairly soon and you leave that day with the denture snapped in.
Now if you need teeth removed, the process may take anywhere from, let’s say, 4 to 5 months, because we need that healing time for the bone to heal before I can place the implants. So it just kind of depends if you need teeth removed or not; that affects how long the process takes.

Separate healing time from attachment day
Dr. Ackerman makes an important distinction: the denture can be attached on the day she places the implants, but that appointment may come after healing and denture preparation. Your starting point determines how long the overall process takes.
