Why Dr Regan Ackerman Loves Helping Dental Patients

The short answer

Dr. Ackerman says the most rewarding part of her work is helping patients who struggle with missing teeth or dentures. She values getting to know patients personally and seeing them feel comfortable eating, smiling, and spending time with others again.

Problems with your teeth can affect much more than mealtimes. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman shares why helping patients feel comfortable with their teeth is so meaningful to her and how the relationships she builds continue after treatment.

My job as a dentist, and specifically an implant dentist working with mini dental implants, is so fun because I get to help out so many people that are struggling with either dentures or missing teeth, and it can be life-changing. There are so many scenarios where I’ve seen people come in that were struggling. They stopped going to social events. Or they stopped smiling in pictures with families. And for me to be able to help them out either with snap-in dentures or replace missing teeth, it’s life-changing for them, and it’s life-changing for me.

And we always say our patients become family a lot of the time. We’re a small practice, so we really get to know our patients, and that’s one of the best things about my job and being able to offer a service when people thought they didn’t have any other options. Maybe they thought they weren’t a candidate for implants anymore, they thought they couldn’t afford implants, and we’re able to provide a solution for them. I love that we see many of our patients regularly.

If you have snap-in dentures, you have to come in and get your O-rings changed once a year, so we get to see them. And I can’t tell you how many times I’ve had patients say, "I’m so glad I did this.

It’s the best decision I made. I wish I had done it sooner." And those are things— when I hear those, that just makes my day so much better and makes it go by faster. And that’s why I do what I do. So it’s very rewarding to be able to offer this service to patients in our community.
