The short answer
Dr. Ackerman explains how mini dental implants can stabilize loose dentures or support replacement teeth. She discusses snap-in dentures, roundhouse bridges, and crowns or bridges for patients missing one or several teeth.
Missing teeth and loose dentures can make eating or wearing your teeth comfortably a daily concern. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman describes several ways she uses mini dental implants to address these problems.
So what issues can dental implants correct? So there are many issues. I’d say the number one issue is people struggling with dentures. There are so many people out there, I say they wear their denture in their pockets because they never have it in. They put it in for weddings, funerals, and social events.
So that’s probably one of my favorite things to do is denture stabilization restorations or a full-arch restoration to help people struggling with dentures. So many people have that lower denture, like I said, they come with it in their pocket because they never wear it. So a lot of times I’m able to do what we call a snap-in denture. I’m able to place the mini dental implants, put these attachments inside the denture that same day, leave with that denture snapped in that same day.
So no more floppy denture down there. Or the upper denture. A lot of times it’s gagging people. I can trim off some of the roof of the mouth to help with that gaggy feel, and now they’re able to wear their dentures. I’ve actually done this several times within the past week.
A patient that couldn’t wear dentures at all, couldn’t— they gagged, they moved. We actually started with the top denture first, left with that denture in, was able to wear it several weeks, came back for the post-op. Now he’s got a big smile and can keep his teeth in. We also replace dentures completely, where we do what we call a roundhouse bridge. So it’s just a lot less bulky, and you don’t have to remove it every day.
It’s essentially permanent teeth. So this is huge for people with self-confidence, knowing that you don’t have dentures, you don’t have to take anything in and out. But don’t forget, the snap-in denture still is dramatically better than regular dentures. You don’t have to use glue to keep them in. A lot of people are missing a single tooth, or they lost all their molars, and they want to be able to chew again.
So I can replace single teeth with the mini dental implants. So say you’re missing a lot of teeth in the back and you miss chewing that steak, I can place several implants here, make a bridge, this gets cemented on permanently, and you can go out and order that steak again off the menu. Or say you had trauma or an accident and you’re missing a front tooth, we can replace that as well with the mini dental implant. So there are many different ways the implants can benefit people and and change lives, essentially.

Options for different tooth replacement needs
The solution depends on what you are missing and what is causing difficulty. Dr. Ackerman describes stabilizing an existing denture, replacing it with a roundhouse bridge, and using implants for individual gaps. Her examples show why a treatment discussion starts with your specific concerns.
