Before choosing implant treatment, you want to understand the likelihood of success and what can affect it. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman shares her estimate and explains why the evaluation and care instructions matter.
So what is the success rate of mini dental implants? So I would say, if you’re a good candidate, everything checks out, I’d say 90%. They’re very successful. Are there times when things can fail? Yes, anything can fail in dentistry, a filling, but it depends on using the mini dental implant in the right scenario. That’s kind of where my experience comes in.
I’ve been doing mini dental implants for almost 10 years now, and I’ve kind of specialized my practice to that. That is all I do every day, all day. So I’ve got the experience. I know when to use a mini dental implant and when not to use a mini dental implant. So overall, at a 90% success rate, there are some things that can give you a guarded prognosis. If you’re smoking a pack of cigarettes a day, that’s going to give you a guarded prognosis.
If you’re diabetic and uncontrolled, there are certain things that decrease healing, but not to say I haven’t done many implants on people in those scenarios and had success. But can you get some failures there? Yes. But overall, 90% success rate, as long as you’re following our instructions, taking care of yourself, and we’re placing it in the right scenario.
