The short answer
Dr. Ackerman explains why unhealthy teeth should not be ignored because of concerns about dentures. She encourages patients to discuss replacement options, including implant-supported dentures and bridges, during a free consultation.
Some patients delay needed dental care because they are worried about living with dentures. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman discusses the connection between oral health and overall health and explains why it helps to learn about your replacement options.
What’s the connection between your oral health and your physical health? It’s very important. We always say, your mouth or your oral cavity, I mean, it’s the entrance to the rest of your body. So everything in your mouth connects to the rest of your body. A lot of people have diseased teeth, periodontally diseased teeth, cavities, and maybe they know their teeth need to come out, but they just don’t want to be stuck with regular dentures for the rest of their life.
That’s where the mini dental implants can certainly help out, because we can do a denture stabilization with mini implants, or get rid of the dentures completely. So if you’re putting off having teeth removed, please, it’s a free consultation. Come in, see what your options are and see what the cost is. It includes a 3D X-ray. But, if you’re maintaining unhealthy teeth in your oral cavity, that’s affecting the rest of your body.
I’ve seen several patients that had put it off for many years, and then they had their teeth removed, and they were so surprised or amazed at just how much better they felt in their health. They say, "I didn’t realize how much this was affecting my overall health." But once they got those diseased teeth removed, they wish they had done it sooner.
If you’re interested in learning more about oral health and overall health, we invite you to schedule a free consultation with Dr. Regan Ackerman at Freedom Dental Implants in Louisville, Kentucky. We look forward to giving you the freedom to smile.
Discuss the teeth and the replacement plan together
Dr. Ackerman recognizes that fear of the final result can prevent someone from addressing unhealthy teeth. Her recommendation is to review the dental problem, replacement choices, and cost together. That lets you understand the plan before deciding on treatment.
