Do Implant Dentures Affect Eating and Speaking

The short answer

Dr. Ackerman explains that stabilizing a denture with mini implants can help patients feel more confident eating and speaking. She shares examples involving foods patients avoid and concerns about dentures moving during conversation, singing, or public speaking.

A moving denture can affect what you order at a restaurant or how comfortable you feel speaking. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman explains why patients choose snap-in dentures and the everyday concerns they want to address.

How do implant dentures or snap-in dentures affect your ability to eat and speak? So I would say probably the reason you got snap-in dentures is so that you can eat and speak confidently. Definitely, that is going to increase what you can eat dramatically. So many people come to me with regular dentures, they struggle with eating salads and steaks and sandwiches and pizza and burgers and all those good things. Or they eat and then all the glue just goes away and they have to reapply the glue.

So that is why you got your snap-in dentures, so that you can eat steak again, you can bite into that burger, pizza. I’m kind of saying all the foods I like to eat, but everybody has different things. Salads, that’s a big thing with people. So the whole reason you get snap-in dentures is so you can eat more foods more confidently. Also, so you can speak.

I’ve had a lot of people that like to sing at church, or they’re in a choir, and they’re always worried before implants about their denture coming out or falling out. So that is why you get a snap-in denture with the mini implants, because it will stabilize that denture and give you the confidence to know your denture is locked and loaded. It is in there. And so you can sing as much as you want, talk. I have several of my patients that are preachers, and that was always their concern, their denture was moving around or loose while they were preaching, and we were able to do snap-in dentures with them, and now they have that confidence and they can really preach, sing, talk.

So those are probably the top 2 reasons you are going to get snap-in dentures, implant dentures with the mini implants, so you can eat what you want to eat again and speak freely.
