The short answer
Dr. Ackerman says same-day extraction and implant placement may be possible in selected cases. She evaluates the tooth, root shape, location, and remaining bone with a 3D X-ray. When healing is needed first, she discusses temporary tooth replacement.
You may hope to replace a tooth as soon as it is removed. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman explains why same-day placement is a case-by-case decision and how temporary teeth can help when healing needs to come first.
So if you’re wondering if you can get the implant the same day you get a tooth extracted or removed, sometimes you can. It’s kind of a case-by-case basis. So what I would tell you is come in for the free consultation. It’s no charge. It includes the 3D x-ray so I can see the tooth that needs to be removed.
I’ll be able to see the root formation of that tooth, and if I think it is a possibility that the implant could be placed the same day. We’ll go over kind of the process, what to expect, the options. So the answer is yes, it can be done, but on a case-by-case basis. It just kind of depends on your situation, which tooth it is, where it is in the mouth, how much bone is left. But don’t get discouraged if it can’t be placed the same day.
There are many ways I can take the tooth out, give you a temporary to let things heal until we can properly place the implant. I will say the last thing you want to do is to rush placing the implant and not have a good outcome. I’m going to recommend what is best for you for the best outcome long-term for the implant.
