The short answer
Sometimes an existing denture can be converted to a snap-in denture. Dr. Ackerman checks its appearance, bite, fit, and thickness. If it is suitable, she adds attachments to connect it to mini implants, sometimes after relining it.
If you like your denture but cannot keep it stable, you may wonder whether you need to replace it. In this video, Dr. Regan Ackerman explains what she checks before deciding whether your current denture can be converted.
Can I convert your existing denture into an implant denture? Sometimes. I would have to see you for the free consultation that we do to see your denture and to make sure that it could be converted to a snap-in denture with implants. But a lot of times, if the denture has good aesthetics, a good bite, there’s enough kind of thickness for me to place the implants. If you like everything about your denture, but it just won’t stay in, I would say a the majority of the time I can convert it to a snap-in denture, and obviously that would help save you some money on the treatment.
So definitely come in for a free consultation and let me see if I can do that If I can, sometimes I have to reline the denture, just redo the inside of the denture to match your gums exactly how they are this moment in time, so we have the best fit.
But then I would place the mini dental implants, local anesthetic, I don’t have to sedate you, with no incisions, no stitches. I’m essentially going to place the implants, and then the same day I place the implants, I will take your denture, I will put these attachments inside your denture, and now you will leave with your denture snapped onto those implants. So you probably were struggling keeping the denture in or having to use glue to keep it in. That day, no more glue, no more struggle, and you’ll be able to take the denture out, once a day, rinse and clean everything. So the answer to your question, if I can convert your existing denture to a snap-in denture, is sometimes yes, I can.
I would just need to see your denture. I don’t want to make any promises I can’t keep, but I have done it for many people in the past. You just need to come in for the free consultation so I can evaluate your denture to see if we can convert it.

Bring your current denture to the evaluation
Dr. Ackerman needs to see the denture before making a recommendation. A good appearance and bite matter, but there also needs to be room for the attachments and a suitable fit against your gums. She explains that reusing a suitable denture may reduce the treatment cost.
